REMSEN, Iowa -- Sharon Kahl, 71, of Remsen died unexpectedly Monday, Nov. 12, 2007, at her residence.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church in Remsen, with the Rev. Craig Miller officiating. After the service Thursday, the body will be cremated. Burial of the ashes will be at a later date in Remsen City Cemetery. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. Wednesday, with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m., at Fisch Funeral Home in Remsen. Visitation will resume 9 a.m. until service time Thursday at the church.
Sharon was born Oct. 24, 1936, in Sioux City, the daughter of Alfred and Virginia (Dowd) Cole. She was raised and educated in the Toledo, Iowa, area. She later lived in the Lakefield, Minn., area.
On May 26, 1979, she married Harry (Bud) Kahl in Remsen, where they made their home. Shortly after her marriage, she began working at Barnyard Basics in Le Mars, Iowa. She was employed at Happy Siesta Health Care Center in Remsen from Oct. 23, 1991 until her retirement on Jan. 12, 1997.
She was a member of St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church. She enjoyed bowling and playing bingo.
Survivors include her husband, Bud Kahl of Remsen; a daughter and her husband, Nancy Ann and Bruce Pratt of Fremont, Neb.; six sons and wives, Ted Wayne and Sandy Olson of Durham, N.C., Charles Michael and Deb Olson of Omaha, Jeffrey Ray and Sue Olson of Le Mars, Iowa, William Alfred Ahrens of Tennessee, Craig Victor Ahrens of Kansas, and Victor Allen and Sheila Ahrens of Remsen; 27 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; three sisters, Shirley Thomas of Cherokee, Iowa, Joyce Chapman of Sioux City and Pat Wingfield of Tampa Bay, Fla.; a brother, Abe Cole of Sioux City; and a sister-in-law, Bonnie Cole of Sioux City.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and four brothers, Herbert, Loren, Jerry and Jimmy Cole.
Pallbearers will be Ted and Jeffrey Olson, Bill, Craig and Victor Ahrens and Bruce Pratt.
