Margaret E. Goebel, 93, of Marcus, Iowa died on Wednesday, October 31, 2007 at Floyd Valley Hospital in Le Mars, Iowa.

Margaret Edith Goebel was born on April 8, 1914 on a farm south of Marcus, Iowa, the daughter of Charles and Emma (Riley) Quirin. She attended Holy Name Catholic School and graduated from Marcus High School with the class of 1933.

On March 9, 1943 Margaret and Ray Goebel were united in marriage at Holy Name Catholic Church in Marcus. The couple farmed and raised their family south of Marcus. Mr. Goebel passed away in March of 1970. In 1971 Margaret moved to Marcus where she was currently residing.

Margaret was a member of Holy Name Catholic Church in Marcus, St. Ann'­s Guild, Catholic Daughters of the Americas, Missionary, Medjugorie Rosary, and Senior Citizens. She was active in the lives of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and always kept up with current events. Many in the community will remember her famous banana bread that she shared with others.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Ray; four sisters and their husbands Alice and Henry Nacke, Agnes and Fred Nacke, Daria and Henry Bush, and Mary and Cletus Konz; and two brothers Lyle and Charles Quirin.

She will be lovingly remembered by her daughters Donna Engel and her husband Jim of Le Mars, Iowa and Patricia Haahr and her husband Bob of Lincoln, Nebraska, a son Jerry Goebel and his wife Sandy of Princeton, Minnesota; eight grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, November 5, 2007 at Holy Name Catholic Church in Marcus, Iowa. The Rev. Eugene Murray will officiate. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery. Visitation will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 4, 2007 at the Earnest -- Rhode Funeral Home in Marcus, Iowa. There will be a Rosary Service at 4:00 p.m. led by the Catholic Daughters of the Americas and a Scriptural Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. There will also be one hour of visitation at the church prior to Mass on Monday.
