Marvin Leroy Baldwin, 91 of Grand Junction, Colo., and formerly of Akron and Le Mars, was reunited with his beloved wife on Monday Dec. 17, 2007, at Larchwood Inns Nursing Home in Grand Junction surrounded by his love ones.
Marvin was born in Union County, South Dakota, on May 20, 1916, the son of Oscar Baldwin and Seralda (Heeren) Baldwin. He attended Country School near Akron and later Akron High School. He was united in marriage to Iona (Dolly) Heyl on Feb. 11, 1936, in Sioux City. They had two children, Connie and Iven (Butch) and lost one daughter in infancy. Marvin operated a trucking business in Akron for a number of years, and worked for Iowa Public Service for 26 years, retiring in 1980. He and Dolly moved to Grand Junction, Colo., in 1991, to be closer to their family. Dolly died in 1994 and shortly thereafter Marvin moved to the Atrium Retirement Center in Grand Junction where he enjoyed life and made many friends. He entered Larchwood Inns July 1, 2007
Marvin was such a caretaker. He took wonderful care of Dolly for eight years after she suffered two strokes. It was always important for him to reach out to family and friends to help in any way he could. We all enjoyed hearing him share his stories of his " younger exciting" life. He kept us entertained! Marvin was a member of the Wesley United Methodist Church in Akron and the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 1381 in Le Mars.
He is survived by daughter Connie Mattas; grandson Bradley (Carolyn), great-grandchild Morgan and step-grandchildren Teri and Rodney; grandson Greg (Paula) and great-grandchildren Christopher and Savanna all of Grand Junction; Son Iven (Butch) of Ellwood City, Pa.; grandson Steve (Kimberly), great-grandchild Makenna of Greenville, Texas; grandson David (Amy), great-grandchildren Mason and Emma of Seven Fields, Pa.; and various nieces and nephews and many friends.
Marvin was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Dolly; a brother Lyle; a sister-in-law Alma Berry, and son-in-law Matt Mattas.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 29, 2007 at Wesley United Methodist Church in Akron, with the Rev. Laurice Streyffeler officiating. Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery in Akron.
