AKRON, Iowa -- La Von Knapp, 80, of Akron passed away Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2007, at Akron Care Center.

A prayer service will be 7 p.m. Thursday at Carlsen Funeral Home -- Schroeder Chapel in Akron, with David Husmann officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery at Sioux City. Visitation will be after 4 p.m. Thursday, with the family present after 6 p.m., at the funeral home.

Ida La Von Knapp was born Feb. 3, 1927, near Hawarden, Iowa, the daughter of Fred and Amy (Henry) Petersen. She was baptized and confirmed into the Christian faith. She attended country school in Union County, S.D. She helped her family on the farm.

She was united in marriage to Robert Dean Knapp on Dec. 30, 1950, in Jefferson, S.D. They farmed near Hinton, Iowa, for many years. She was a homemaker for her family. Robert passed away Oct. 29, 1990. La Von moved to Akron in 1995, and had been a resident of Akron Care Center since January 2006.

She enjoyed working crossword puzzles and watching television. She also enjoyed animals, especially those on the farm. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Survivors include her three children, Warren Knapp and his wife, Lynn of Hinton, Iowa, Mary Kiewel and her husband, Darrell of Akron, and Karen J. Knapp of Sioux City; two granddaughters, Amy Kiewel Haneklaus of Westfield, Iowa, and Crystal Kiewel of Le Mars, Iowa; two great-grandchildren; a brother, Harry Petersen and his wife, Lorraine of Elk Point, S.D., and their family; sisters-in-law, Donna Petersen of Vermillion, S.D., and Virginia Thomas and her husband, Mike of Tucson, Ariz.; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her stepmother, Teresa Petersen; and three brothers, Ralph Petersen, her twin, Ira "Artie" Petersen and Wayne "Pete" Petersen.
