Alice M. Hinken, 69, of Le Mars, died Monday, Dec, 10, 2007, at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City.
Alice Mae Bruhn was born May 11, 1938, on the family farm near Cylinder, the daughter of Erwin and Doris (Meyer) Bruhn. Alice was baptized and confirmed at St. Lukes Lutheran Church near Fairville. She graduated from Cylinder High School in 1956. She continued her education at Fort Dodge Beauty Academy in Fort Dodge. She worked as a stylist at Larsons Beauty Salon in Spencer and later owned and operated House of Beauty in Sioux Center for a few years. Alice was united in marriage to Karl Klein on Oct, 1, 1960. Alice later owned and operated Sunset Beauty in Sheldon. Karl died Feb. 3, 1979.
Following Karl's death, Alice assumed the ownership and management of Klein Trucking. She continued the trucking firm until her retirement on July 1, 1990. Alice was united in marriage to Richard "Dick" Hinken on May 19, 1984, at Grace Lutheran Church in Le Mars.
Alice and Dick enjoyed spending much of the summers at their home on Lake Okoboji. They also enjoyed spending the winter months at their home in Mesa, Ariz. She loved to sit and watch the grandchildren play on the beach. She also enjoyed shopping, traveling, and sewing.
Survivors include her husband of 23 years, Richard Hinken of Le Mars; two children: Karla Schwartz and her husband Dean of Le Mars and their children, Tyler and Andrea; Kyle Klein and his wife Krista and their children, Kristofer, Kenzi, Kelby, and Karson; a sister, Ruth Dietrich and her husband Paul of Emmetsburg; a brother William Bruhn and his wife Janice of Fenton; several nieces, nephews, and many friends.
Alice was preceded in death by her parents, Erwin and Doris (Meyer) Bruhn and her husband Karl.
Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Grace Lutheran Church in Le Mars with the Rev. Larry Fett officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. Friday at the Carlsen Funeral Home in Le Mars with the family present after 5:30 p.m. to greet friends followed by a 7 p.m. prayer service. Visitation will continue Saturday at the church from 12:30 p.m. until service time.
Pallbearers will be Mike Haverhals, Robert Andersen, Rick Stream, Walt Kleinhesselink, Jerry Arens, and Galen Bruhn.
