Marie Goetzinger, 89, of Le Mars, died Thursday, Jan. 17, 2008, at the Abbey of Le Mars.
The former Marie A. Hames was born May 31, 1918, on the family farm northeast of Remsen, the daughter of Anton and Lucy (Wilmes) Hames and grew up in the Remsen area. She graduated from Beauty School and owned and operated her own beauty shop in downtown Le Mars. Marie married Raymond Goetzinger on January 31, 1944 in Oyens, Iowa. They lived in Le Mars their entire married lives. Marie eventually operated a beauty salon out of their home in Le Mars. Her husband Raymond died in 1979. Marie had resided at the Abbey of Le Mars since 2003.
Marie was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Le Mars and the Ladies Auxiliary of the Eagles Club.
Survivors include two sister-in-laws: Carma Hames and Marcine Hames, both of Le Mars; several nieces and nephews; and several cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Raymond Goetzinger; three brothers; Richard, Raphel, and Orville Hames; and a nephew Richard Hames, Jr.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Le Mars, with the Rev. Dan Greving presiding. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Le Mars. Visitation will be after 3 p.m. Sunday at the Feuerstein Funeral Home in Le Mars, where there will be a Scriptural Wake Service at 7 p.m. The family will be present from 6 to 8 p.m.
