Alice M. Buhman, 91, of Le Mars, died Friday, Feb. 1, 2008 at her home.

Alice Margaret Johnson was born Sept. 13, 1916, on the family farm in Preston Township, rural Plymouth County, the daughter of John and Lena (Siebens) Johnson. Alice was baptized and confirmed at Christ Lutheran Church in Grant Township. She received her education in a country school in Grant Township. Alice was united in marriage to Marvin "Bud" Buhman on Aug. 17, 1936, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Johnson Township. Alice and Bud farmed in Preston Township until 1960 when they moved to Le Mars. In 1975, Alice and Bud moved to Phoenix, Ariz., and returned back home to Le Mars in 1976.

The greatest joy in Alice's life was that she was a mother to her five sons. She lived for her children and later in life her grandchildren who were also a very important part of her life. Through the years "Grandma" enjoyed the time she assisted in caring for her grandchildren.

Alice enjoyed decorating and taking pride in her home. She will be remembered by many as an awesome cook.

Survivors include four sons, Thomas, Bruce, and Jeff Buhman all of Phoenix, Ariz., and Mark Buhman and his wife Mary of Le Mars; 11 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren; niece and nephews, Keith Renken, Jack Renken, David Johnson, and JoAnn Janssen; a sister-in-law, Marvel Johnson; special friends, Sheri Anderson and her daughter Maria Anderson; and many friends.

Alice was preceded in death by her parents, John and Lena (Siebens) Johnson; her husband, Marvin "Bud" Buhman in 1993; a son, Euguene Buhman; two grandchildren, Tammy and Benjamin Buhman; two brothers, Henry and William "Bill" Johnson; and a sister, Tena Renken.

Funeral services were at 10:30 a.m. today (Monday) at St. John's Lutheran Church, E.L.C.A. with the Rev. Gary Landsness officiating. Interment was in Christ Lutheran Cemetery, Grant Township, rural Le Mars. Visitation was after 1 p.m. Sunday at the Carlsen Funeral Home in Le Mars with a 3:30 p.m. prayer service Sunday afternoon at the funeral home. Visitations continued Monday morning from 9:30 a.m. until service time at the church.

Pallbearers were Dick Livermore, Matt Buhman, Travis Buhman, T.J. Buhman, Dennis Mathers, Kevin Jacobs, Bob Renken, and John Renken.
