HORACE A. HORTON

MERRILL, Iowa --- Horace Allen Horton, 93, of Merrill died Wednesday, March 31, 1999, at Wesley Acres Retirement Center in Des Moines.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home in LeMars, Iowa, with the Rev. Tom Hotle of Merrill United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery, Merrill. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mr. Horton was born Feb. 14, 1906, in Sioux City, the son of James and Sally (Thompson) Horton.

He married Irene Carcy on Feb. 24, 1930, in Marcus, Iowa. He was a self-employed mechanic in Merrill for many years, retiring in 1968. The couple had lived in Des Moines for five years.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters and their husbands, Connie Wimer and Francis Fogarty Jr., of Des Moines and Mary and Jim Strube of Merrill; a son and his wife, Thomas L. and Helen of Gaza, Iowa; a sister, Ruth Horton of LeMars; 13 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and two great great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother, James; and a sister, Marie Irwin.
