MERRILL, Iowa -- Deloris E. Holtz, 75, of Merrill died Friday, April 30, 2004, at a Sioux City hospital from heart failure.
Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Merrill United Methodist Church in Merrill, Iowa, with the Rev. Benjamin Meeks officiating. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery in Merrill. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today, with the family present after 6 p.m., and a prayer service at 7 p.m., all at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel in Sioux City.
Deloris E. Holtz was born Sept. 24, 1928 at her home in Hinton, Iowa, the daughter of George and Millie (Church) Richards. She was born and raised in the Hinton and Merrill, Iowa area.
She married Arthur N. Holtz on Sept. 10, 1944 in Sioux City. Deloris worked for Younkers for six years. In 1959, the couple moved to Mapleton, Iowa, where she worked for 11 years for Moore Brothers Grocery Store. They returned to Merrill in 1970. She worked for 15 years at Safeway Food Store in Sioux City. She then worked for two years at Truck Haven in Sioux City. Deloris worked for Boulevard Foods in Sioux City for five years and later at Hy-Vee for 10 years, where she retired from in 2002 due to her health.
She was a member of the Hinton United Methodist Church and the Mapleton United Methodist Church, where she taught Bible school and Sunday school for many years. She enjoyed embroidering dish towels. She also enjoyed cooking, playing cards, putting puzzles together and doing crossword puzzles. Most of all, Deloris loved her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She will be greatly missed by her husband of over 59 years, Arthur of Merrill; a son, Arthur "Butch" and his wife, Bonnie of Merrill; four daughters, Sandra Alberts and her husband, Daniel of Sioux City, Barbara Newton and her husband, Wayne of Decatur, Texas, Susan Schroeder and her husband, Sam of Wayne, Neb. and Patty Bengtson of Fountain Hills, Ariz.; a sister and her husband, Sharon and Darrell Beck of Sioux City; 15 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Marvin Richards; two sisters, Bertha Tague and Vernice Felton and her husband, Jim; a son-in-law, Roger Bengtson; and two grandchildren, Tammi Bengtson and Suzanne Schroeder.
Pallbearers will be Gary Holtz, Scott Holtz, Dennis Holtz, Brent Bengtson, Randy Alberts, Billy Hendersen, grandsons of Deloris; and Jerry Armstrong, a special friend of the family. Honorary pallbearers will be Laurie Holtz, Brandye Jumps, Lisa Alberts, Shery Alberts, Katie Hendersen, Shelli Huggenberger, Shanna Hintz, Shawn Schroeder and Cari Catania, granddaughters of Deloris.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made in her name to the Siouxland Cancer Center.
