LOUIS BUNKERS
REMSEN, Iowa --- Louis Bunkers, 68, of Remsen died Friday, March 22, 1996, at a Sioux City hospital following a brief illness.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Remsen with the Rev. John J. McGuirk officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. Monday at the Fisch Funeral Home in Remsen. There will be a 3 p.m. parish rosary, a 7:30 p.m. vigil prayer service, and an 8 p.m. rosary by Catholic Order of Foresters at the funeral home on Monday.
Mr. Bunkers was born Nov. 9, 1927, in rural Remsen, the son of Joseph and Mary (Bohlke) Bunkers. He was raised and educated in the Remsen area. He worked in dairy farming with his father and brothers in the Bunkers Dairy at Remsen, and also did carpentry work part time. He married Ginger Hatz Jan. 18, 1950, in Remsen, where they then made their home. In 1964 he went into the construction business full time until his illness.
Mr. Bunkers was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and the Catholic Order of Foresters. He was a past member of the Remsen City Council and the Remsen Fire Department.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Mary Bunkers of Springdale, Ark., and Luanne and her husband, Carl Nigrone, of Houston, Texas; seven sons, Dave and his wife Janet of Des Moines, Iowa, Doug and his wife Joy and Michael , all of Lake Arrowhead, Calif., Richard and his wife Cissy of Bellaire, Mich., Paul and his wife Jane of Santa Ana, Calif., Tim and his wife, Jill, of Cherokee, Iowa, and Tom and his wife Ann of LeMars; 13 grandchildren; two great grandsons; a sister and her husband, Armella and Gilbert Loesche of Remsen; three brothers and their wives, LeRoy and Ruth, and Cletus and Adeline, all of Remsen, and Dale and Mary of Granville, Iowa; a sister-in-law, Mrs. Vernon (Esther) Bunkers of Remsen; and a brother-in-law, Paul Kestel, of Marcus, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Mrs. Sylvester (Marian) Kobberman and Mrs. Paul (Doris) Kestel; and a brother, Vernon.
Pallbearers will be his sons, Dave, Doug, Richard, Michael, Paul, Tim and Tom Bunkers.
