EDWARD T. KASS

Edward T. “Ed” Kass, 89, of LeMars, died Monday, April 7, 2003, at Happy Siesta Health Care Center in Remsen, following a lengthy illness.

Ed was born Oct. 13, 1913, at Salem, S.D., the son of Lewis and Margaret (Schmidt) Kass. As a young boy, he moved with his parents to Oyens and graduated from Central High School in LeMars.

On June 6, 1936, Ed married Geraldine Reynolds at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in LeMars. Following their marriage the couple made their home in LeMars. Ed owned and operated a service station in LeMars for 51 years.

He was a longtime member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in LeMars.

Survivors include his wife, Geraldine Kass of LeMars; six children, Thomas Kass and his wife, Deanne, of Pocahontas, Barbara Lauters and her husband, Robert, of Dodge City, Kan., Patricia Hall and her husband, Mike, of Camarillo, Calif., Raymond Kass of Prescott Valley, Ariz., Steven Kass and his wife Kelly, of Sarasota, Fla., and Brian Kass and his wife, Kim, of Sarasota, Fla.; 18 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers; three sisters; and two sons.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in LeMars. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in LeMars.

Friends may call anytime after 4 p.m. Thursday at the Feuerstein Funeral Home in LeMars. There will be a Scriptural wake service at 7 p.m. and a rosary at 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
