GENE BUNCH

ROCK VALLEY, Iowa --- Gene Bunch, 68, of Rock Valley died Sunday, Aug. 22, 1999, at Valley Manor.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Pioneer United Methodist Church with the Rev. Jerry Robertson officiating. Burial will be in Valley View Cemetery at Rock Valley. Visitation will be Tuesday with the family present 7 to 8 p.m. at Porter Funeral Home, Rock Valley.

Mr. Bunch was born Feb. 2, 1931, at LeMars, Iowa, the son of Gerald and Lillian (Laackmann) Bunch. Due to his mother’s death when he was 3 ½ months old, his grandparents, Henry and Augusta Laackmann, raised him in Doon, Iowa. He graduated from Doon High School. While in high school he started working for Valley State Bank in Doon.

He married Shirley Hubers on June 6, 1950, at Rock Rapids, Iowa. The couple lived in Rock Valley where he continued working at Valley State Bank. He later started the Bunch Insurance Agency. Due to a stroke, he moved to Valley Manor on Feb. 22, 1992.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Bruce Bunch of Saint Charles, Mo.; a daughter and her husband, Peggy and Dave Nilsen of Sioux Falls; and seven grandchildren, Tony and Sarah Kattke, Brian, Mindy, and Alyse Nilsen, Jonathan Beeler, and Holly Myers.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Pamela.
