VIOLET C. BENNETT

LE MARS, Iowa – Violet Caroline Bennett, 81, of LeMars, died unexpectedly Tuesday, Nov. 7, 2000, at Floyd Valley Hospital in LeMars.

Services will be 10 a.m. Friday at Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home in LeMars with the Rev. Curtis Matson of St. Paul and St. John Lutheran Churches in Merrill, Iowa, officiating. Burial will be in Rock Branch Fairfield Cemetery, rural Correctionville, Iowa. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the funeral home.

Mrs. Bennett was born Oct. 15, 1919, near Moville, Iowa, the daughter of Charles and Lena (Yockey) Prodehl. She attended country school near Moville.

She married Louis Bennett on July 31, 1935, in Elk Point, S.D. The couple lived in the Lawton, Iowa and Moville area until moving to Merrill in 1947. Her husband died in 1981. She recently moved to LeMars. She was a homemaker.

She enjoyed playing cards, gardening and sewing.

Survivors include five daughters, Viola and her husband, Orville Blackmore of Merrill, Alberta and her husband, Walter Pratt, of South Sioux City, Evelyn and her husband, Terry Morehead, of Akron, Iowa, Marlene and her husband, Jim Ernst, of LeMars, and Carolyn Bennett, of LeMars; four sons, William and Armin, both of Hinton, Iowa, and Lowayne and Marlin and his wife, Marcia, all of Sioux City; 13 grandchildren, Debra Daugherty, Douglas Blackmore, Cheryl Kinzie, Christine Wangerin, Tracey Elhers, Tammy Calkins, Tricia, Ken, Deanna and Kevin Ernst and Brian, Tasha and Mandy Bennett; eight great-grandchildren; and five great great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a grandson, Michael Blackmore.

Pallbearers will be Ken and Kevin Ernst, Chris, Brian, and Nick Daugherty, Chad and Doug Blackmore and Brian Bennett.
