John 'Jack' Bauler

LE MARS, Iowa -- John A. "Jack" Bauler, 66, of Le Mars, formerly of Council Bluffs, Iowa, died Thursday, March 4, 2004, at Floyd Valley Hospital in Le Mars.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. James Catholic Church in Le Mars, with the Rev. James Tigges presiding. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery, Merrill, Iowa. Visitation will be after 3 p.m. today, with a Scriptural wake service at 7 p.m., at Feuerstein Funeral Home in Le Mars.

Jack was born in Le Mars, Iowa on Sept. 11, 1937, the son of Herman and Margaret (Murray) Bauler. He graduated from Le Mars Central High School in 1955. He then served in the U.S. Army from 1955 to 1961.

He married Mary Lou Recker on Dec. 27, 1967. Jack was employed by Merrill Plumbing and Pump from 1961 to 1968 and by Dubuque Packing House in Le Mars from 1968 to 1983. He received a degree in heating and air conditioning from Northwest Iowa Community College in 1985 and moved to Council Bluffs. There he worked in the heating, air conditioning and refrigeration field until he retired. He had recently moved back to Le Mars.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Lou Bauler of Le Mars; six children, Brian Marienau of Kansas City, Mo., Blaine and his wife, Carolyn Marienau, of Sioux City, Becky and her husband, Jeff Mason, of North Sioux City, Lisa and her husband, Randy Hoyt, of Merrill, Iowa, John Bauler Jr. of North Sioux City and Jane Bauler of Sioux City; 11 grandchildren, Cassie and Ashley Mason, Amanda and Brittany Barley, Jason Marienau, Rachel Hoyt, Sheena Frye and Lori, Lois, Kyra and Andrew Bauler; three sisters, Zelda Sherlock and her husband, Ray, of Merrill, Jean Covert of Sioux Falls, S.D. and Barbara Bornholtz of Buffalo, Wyo.; a stepsister, Rosemary Samms of Omaha, Neb.; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his mother and father; his stepfather, Richard Van Voorst; a brother, Harry Bauler; two stepbrothers, Alfred and Alex Van Voorst; two brothers-in-law, Jerry Covert and Leonard Black; two nieces, Diane Sherlock and Dawn Recker; and a nephew, Danny Bornholtz.
