RUSSELL L. BARTO

NORTH SIOUX CITY—Russell L. Barto, 74, of North Sioux City, died Saturday, Dec. 16, 2000, at a Sioux City hospital following a lengthy illness.

Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, with the Revs. Joel Wendland and George Greenwood of Tri-State Assembly of God officiating. Burial will be at a later date in Dakota City cemetery. Visitation will be 2 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mr. Barto was born Jan. 14, 1926, in Wakefield, Neb., the son of Levi and Mae Maud (Montgomery) Barto. He was raised in Wakefield, where he attended school.

He married Phoebee P. Steele on Aug. 18, 1946, in LeMars, Iowa. He had been a resident of Sioux City for 23 years and a resident of North Sioux City for 27 years. He was employed with Conner Transfer in Wakefield for eight years. He was employed as a truck driver with Cargill for 15 years, and then with Dailey Redwood for 15 years.

He was a member of First Assembly of God in South Sioux City.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Danny L. of Colorado Springs, Colo, and Mark A. and his wife, Darlene, of Dakota Dunes, S.D.; a daughter and her husband, Roxanne and Jody Cutler of Belgrade, Mont.; two sisters, Margaret L. Thompson of North Sioux City, and Marjorie Barto of LeMars; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Roland; and a sister, Irene Combs.
