LE MARS, Iowa --- Elverna Mae Marienau, 77, of LeMars, died Thursday, Dec. 7, 2000, at Brentwood Good Samaritan Center in LeMars.

Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at St. John Lutheran Church in Merrill, Iowa, with the Rev. Curtis Matson officiating. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery. Visitation will be after 6 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 7 p.m. at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home in LeMars.

Mrs. Marienau was born Feb. 16, 1923, near Adaville, Iowa, the daughter of John and Carolyn (Karley) Swisher. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. She attended country school at Liberty Consolidated School.

She married Marvin Marienau on Jan. 14, 1943, in Dakota City. The couple farmed near Merrill for a few years before moving into Merrill. She was employed part time at K-Products in LeMars. She had been a resident of Brentwood Good Samaritan Center for 18 years.

She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church and enjoyed canning, baking, embroidering and gardening.

Survivors include her husband; three daughters, Sharon and her husband, Marvin Vande Hoef, Patsy and her husband, Bill Gengler, and Eunice Reiter and her friend, Jeffrey Eppinga, all of LeMars; four sisters, Evelyn and her husband, Edwin Anderson, of Sioux City, Opal Hanke of LeMars, Bersalla “Sally” and her husband, Norman Grasz of Ireton, Iowa, and Lucille and her husband, Clarence Carlson, of Beresford, S.D.; two brothers and their wives, John and Jerri Swisher of Harlan, Iowa, and William and Marge Swisher of Westfield, Iowa; nine grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and infant sister, Edna; and a granddaughter, Sheila Vande Hoef.

Pallbearers will be Mike and Robert Vande Hoef, Scott and Steven Reiter, Rodney Toben and Nicholas Gengler.
