LE MARS, Iowa --- Mabel Anna Matgen, 87, of LeMars, died Tuesday, Oct. 31, 2000, at Floyd Valley Hospital in LeMars.Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at Grace Lutheran Church in LeMars, with the Rev. Larry Fett officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 6:30 p.m., at Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home in LeMars.
Mrs. Matgen was born June 8, 1913, near Remsen, Iowa, the daughter of Theodore Karl and Pauline (Stehr) Clement. She was raised on the family farm and attended country school near her home. She then helped area families with housework and child care.
She married Werner Matgen on Dec. 24, 1941, in Dakota City. She was employed as dietician with Plymouth Life for several years and later with Plymouth Manor until her retirement. Her husband died March 28, 1977. She continued to live in LeMars. In 1997, she entered Plymouth Manor.
She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church and was active in Lydia Circle. She enjoyed quilting, crocheting, cross stitching and traveling.
Survivors include six nieces and nephews, Donita and her husband, Bob Cooper, of LeMars; Wendell Blankenship of Des Moines; Denny Blankenship and his wife, Garnet, of Sioux
City; Debbie Kurth of LeMars; Corinne and her husband, Hal Russell, of Fort Collins, Colo.; and Dan Clement and his wife, Judy, of LeMars; 14 grandnieces and grandnephews; and nine great grandnieces and great grandnephews.She was preceded in death by two brothers, Wilbert and Eldon Clement; and a sister, Edna Blankenship.
Pallbearers will be Jay Kurth, Bryson and Josh Russell, Joe and Adam Cooper and Curt Blankenship.
