Judy Ann Smith
Judy Ann Smith, 56, of Sioux City died Thursday, Aug. 19, 2004, at a Sioux City hospital after a sudden illness.
Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Morningside Church of Christ, with the Rev. David B. Haynes officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 2 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Christy-Smith Morningside Chapel.
Judy was born Jan. 5, 1948, at Akron, Iowa, to John and Bonnie (McInnis) Ludwigs. The family moved to Sioux City when Judy was four, and she attended Sioux City public schools, graduating from East High School in 1966. She went to work for the Zenith Corporation in Sioux City, where she met Sherwood "Woody" Smith.
The couple were married on March 14, 1969 in North Sioux City. To this union, three children were born, Connie, Lori and Kenneth. In 1977 she started a day-care business in her home. Woody died April 25, 1985. Judy also worked part-time at Econofoods until they closed. In 1998, she began working part-time at Security Bank in the proof and transit department.
She was a member of Morningside Church of Christ, where she had been an active member for many years. She served as a deaconess, taught Sunday school and vacation Bible school and helped with youth activities and camps. She loved children and loved being a day-care provider. She enjoyed serving as a Girl Scout leader and a volunteer at Morningside Little League. Her hobbies included bowling, playing cards and doing many different crafts. She was a great mother and grandmother and will be dearly missed
Survivors include two daughters, Connie Smith of Sioux City and Lori Williamson and her husband, Randy, of Lennox, S.D.; a son, Kenneth Smith and his wife, Shannon, of Brookings, S.D.; eight grandchildren; a sister, Jodi Jennings and her husband, J.J. , of Phoenix, Ariz.; two brothers, James Ludwigs and his wife, Laurie, and Jay Ludwigs and his wife, Cheryl, all of Omaha, Neb.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; and a brother, Todd Ludwigs.
