Herb Zieger 1925-2004
Herbert L. Zieger, 79, of St. Lawrence, S.D., died Friday, July 9, 2004 at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, July 14 at 2 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Miller with the Revs. Fred Rosin and Gary Anderson officiating.
Burial will be at the G.A.R. Cemetery, Miller. Casketbearers will be Kelvin Grey, Jay Fanning, Stub Caffee, Joe Poindexter, Roger and Kent Bertsch. Honorary casketbearers will be Dr. Norm Meriweather, Harlan Meier, Larry Rezek, Charlie Seagren, Hugh Ingals, Leland Cain and all of his friends.
Herbert Leonard Zieger was born April 3, 1925 to Frank and Sophia (Ahrendt) Zieger in Miller, S.D. He attended a rural school in Hand County and Aggie School at South Dakota State College in Brookings where he graduated in 1943. He proudly served as a chauffeur for a commanding officer in the United States Army during World War II.
He married Gladys Dennler on November 19, 1950 at Plymouth Presbyterian Church near LeMars, Iowa. They spent their life farming and ranching north of St. Lawrence.
He was a lifetime member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Miller and was a member of the VFW. He loved spending time with family and friends and enjoyed motorcycles, snowmobiling and being outdoors.
Survivors include his wife, Gladys of St. Lawrence; four children, Kenneth of Miller, Penny (John) Fanning of Tea, S.D., Carole (Mike) Clement of Miller and Joel of Billings, Mont.; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; a brother, Ralph (Barb) Zieger of Miller; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Hilda Hargens; and an infant granddaughter, Sara Fanning.
