AKRON, Iowa -- J. Robert Foley, 79, of Akron passed away Thursday, Jan. 5, 2006, at Akron Care Center in Akron.
There will be no services or visitation. The body has been cremated. There will be a private family burial at a later date. Carlsen Funeral Home -- Schroeder Chapel in Akron is in charge of arrangements.
James Robert Foley was born July 15, 1926, in Mankato, Minn., the son of James and Ida (Ostrom) Foley. He attended school in Mankato and graduated from Mankato High School in 1944.
In 1949, he moved to the family farm in Akron and farmed in Johnson Township for many years until retiring due to his health.
He attended National Business College in Sioux City and graduated. Following his schooling, he worked as a bookkeeper for St. Joseph's Hospital and later, a Volkswagen dealership in Sioux City. He retired completely due to his health after 10 years. For the past year, he had been living at the Ridgewood Apartments in Akron.
Survivors include two brothers, Gordon Foley and his wife, Jean of Akron, and Richard "Dick" Foley and his wife, Candy of Merrill, Iowa; a sister, Corrine Young of Newcastle, Wyo.; 12 nieces and nephews; and 20 great-nieces and great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Donald Foley; a sister, Shirley Foley; and a niece, Joan Foley.
