Funeral for Alex Pelelo, 61, farm operator near Merrill
Alex Pelelo, 61, of Merrill died Saturday (Nov. 17, 1984) at St. Luke's Regional Medical Center after a long illness.
Funeral will be at 2 PM Tuesday at the Plymouth Presbyterian Church, rural Akron. Rev. Hatty Duncan will Officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
There will be a Masonic service and prayer service at 8 P.M. Monday at the Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home in LeMars.
Mr. Pelelo was born May 23, 1923, in Sioux City to Constatine and Mary Zarembovsky Pelelo and graduated from Central High School in 1942.
He was a member of the U. S. Marine Corps from 1943 until 1945, serving in the Pacific Theater. He graduated from Morningside College in January 1951.
He married Lila Fagan Jan. 17, 1948, rural Akron. They moved to Merrill in 1951 where they farmed until the present. He also worked at Joe Rosenthal & Sons from 1968 until his retirement in 1983.
Mr. Pelelo was a member of the Plymouth Presbyterian Church where he served as an elder on the Board of Sessions and was a former trustee.
He was a member of Oelsen-Halweg Post 125, American Legion, of Merrill, past master of Giblem Lodge 322, AF&M, Order of Eastern Star, past Rainbow dad of LeMars Assembly, and presently was serving as District 1 Rainbow dad.
He was the recipient of the Grand Cross of Color, International Order of Rainbow for Girls. He was a member of the Wrecking Crew of Abu Bekr Shrine Temple and in October 1983 was designated a Knight Commander of the Court of Honor in the Sioux City Consistory.
He was a member of the executive board of the Siouxland Ostomy Chapter and was an Ostomy Visitor since 1980. He was also a member of the Cancervivors and was a Cancervivor Visitor since 1981.
Survivors are his wife; three sons, Michael of Sioux City, Steven of Ames and Robert at home; four daughters, Mrs. Robert (Mary) Laroco of Woodridge, Ill., Margaret of Minneapolis, Sarajane of Lackland AFB, Texas, and Catherine of Ames; one brother Walter of Kennewick, Wash.; three sisters, Helen Cory of South Sioux City, June Rose of Grosse Ille, Mich., and Mrs. John (Vera) Lanik of Yakima, Wash., and two grandchildren.
