MERRILL, IOWA – Milton E. Atkinson, 80 of rural Merrill, died Saturday in a Sioux City hospital.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Plymouth Presbyterian Church in rural Akron with the Rev. Hatty Duncan officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Family visitation is from 7-8:30 today at Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home in LeMars.
Mr. Atkinson was born Feb. 9, 1905, in Woodbury County, rural Sioux City. He married Vera Gabel on June 9, 1925, in Sioux City. He farmed in the Merrill area for 42 years before retiring in 1969.
He was an active member of Plymouth Presbyterian Church, a member of Farm Bureau, and was on the board of Farm Service Co. He was a former member of Plymouth County Adjustment Board, and had served on the magistrate appointment committee. He was also a member of Masonic Triangle Lodge in Sioux City, Sioux City Consistory, and Abu Bekr Shrine Temple.
Survivors include his wife; one son, Bruce of Chicago; one daughter, Sandra Atkinson of rural Merrill; and one sister, Leone Coats of Sioux City.
