George H. Ludwigs, 93, of Le Mars, died Thursday, March 22, 2007, at Floyd Valley Hospital in Le Mars.
George Henry Ludwigs was born Sept. 9, 1913, near Struble. He was baptized Sept. 28, 1913, and confirmed on April 10, 1927, at Christ Lutheran Church (Grant Township) near Le Mars. George attended country school near his home and helped his family on the farm. He was instrumental in raising his siblings as well as day-to-day operations with farming.
On Jan. 16, 1946, George and Irene V. Muecke were united in marriage at Hinton. The couple made their home on the family farm near Struble. In 1964 they relocated to a farm near Hinton. The couple retired in 1986 and moved to Le Mars.
George was a member of the United Methodist Church of Le Mars. He enjoyed playing pinochle, pitch and solitaire. He often went dancing with Irene and liked polka music. He also kept a large garden.
Most of all George enjoyed playing with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 61 years, Irene of Le Mars; a daughter, Shirley Irene Renken and her husband Jerry of Beresford, S.D.; a daughter, Marianne Ruth Meister of Le Mars; a son Brian George Ludwigs of Bronson; eight grandchildren Danny Renken and his wife Trisha, Dave Renken, Dicky Renken, Scott Meister and his wife Bobbi, Greg Meister, Janet Meister, Sunnie Ludwigs and Miles Ludwigs; seven great-grandchildren Isabella Renken, Katerina Renken, Nikita Renken, Tylar Meister, Simon Meister, Rebecca Meister and Kathryn Meister; a sister Zelma M. McCune of Phoenix, Ariz.; a brother, Gerd Ludwigs and his wife Phyllis of Akron; a sister-in-law Evelyn Ludwigs of Le Mars; and a brother-in-law and sister-in-law Elmer and Shirley Muecke of Sheldon.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother John; a sister Catherine Gellerman; and a brother Hilbert Ludwigs.
Funeral services were at 10:30 a.m. today (Monday) at the United Methodist Church of Le Mars, with the Rev. Mike Janes officiating. Burial was at Resthaven Memory Gardens in Le Mars. Visitation began at 12 noon Sunday at the Mauer - Johnson Funeral Home. The family was present from 6 to 8 p.m. and there was a prayer service at 7 p.m., officiated by Rev. Jason Larson. There was also be one hour of visitation at the church prior to the funeral.
