ORANGE CITY, Iowa -- Johanna Zeutenhorst-Vlietstra, 85, of Orange City died Saturday, Nov. 8, 2003, at Hillcrest Care Center in Hawarden, Iowa.
Services will be 11 a.m. today at Memorial Funeral Home in Sioux Center, Iowa, with the Rev. Charles Louvau officiating. Burial will be in Resthaven Memory Gardens in Le Mars, Iowa. Visitation will be 10 to 11 a.m. today prior to the service at the funeral home.
Johanna H. Vlietstra was born Dec. 18, 1917, near Maurice, Iowa, to Barend and Janna (Nyhof) De Jager. "Jo" was raised on the family farm near Maurice and attended country school.
On Nov. 22, 1933, she was united in marriage to Bernard Zeutenhorst. The couple lived in Alton, Iowa, and were later divorced.
On May 15, 1968, she married Edward Weyers. Following their marriage they made their home in Le Mars. Ed preceded her in death on Dec. 12, 1974. Jo later met William Vlietstra Sr., and on Jan. 27, 1979, the two were wed, making their home in Orange City. In December 1999, Jo and Bill became residents of Hillcrest Care Center in Hawarden. Bill passed away Jan. 31, 2000, after 20 years of marriage.
Throughout her life, Jo provided housecleaning for various families in the communities where she lived. She was a private person with a strong work ethic. She was a talented cook and was fond of the flowers she grew around her home.
Survivors include her eight children and their spouses, Joan and James Denver of Gravette, Ark., Ruth and Gerald Conner of Farmingdale, N.J., Howard and Fran Zeutenhorst of Hawarden, Lee and Cynthia Marven of Las Vegas, Nev., Randy and Karen Zeutenhorst of Winterset, Iowa, Russ and Eileen Zeutenhorst of Farmingdale, Stan and Becky Zeutenhorst of Brooklyn, Iowa, and Bob and Beth Zeutenhorst of Maurice, Iowa; a daughter-in-law, Karla Zeutenhorst of Gayville, S.D.; 23 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; two sisters, Henrietta (Wilbert) Vande Kieft and Rose (Albert) De Weerd, both of Sioux Center, Iowa; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husbands, Jo was preceded in death by a son, Larry Zeutenhorst; six sisters; and two brothers.
