MARGARET JANE STEELE

Margaret Jane Steele, 71, of LeMars, died Wednesday, Aug. 28, 1996, at her home following an extended illness.

Margaret Jane Peters was born Sept. 28, 1924, in Bloomfield, Neb., to A. T. and Beth (Hoyt) Peters. She grew up in the Bloomfield area and moved with her family to LeMars as a young girl in 1940. She graduated from LeMars High School in 1942. On Sept. 6, 1944, she married Claire Steele at the First Presbyterian Church in LeMars. The couple farmed in rural Plymouth County from 1945 until 1960 when they moved to LeMars.

Mrs. Steele was a member of the Presbyterian United Church of Christ, Church Circle and P.E.O. Chapter C.D. of LeMars.

She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Margaret and Jim Kennedy of Sumner; a son and daughter-in-law, Thomas and Pam Steele of Kimball, Neb.; 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; a sister and brother-in-law, Betty and Bill Trescott of Hinsdale, Ill.; a brother and sister-in-law, Donald and Ruth Peters of LeMars; and a daughter-in-law,Gerry Steele of Apple Valley, Minn.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Claire in March 1991; and a son, Bruce Steele in 1974.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home in LeMars with the Rev. Ken Royer and the Rev. James Ransom officiating. Burial will be in Resthaven Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. Friday at the funeral home with a prayer service at 7 p.m.

Pallbearers will be K. Kae Meyer, Jim Oplinger, Russ Schaeffer, Glenn Waite, Dick Ahlers and Tom Ryan.
