RUSSELL W. SMITH
Russell W. Smith, 74, of Odebolt, died Thursday (Jan. 17, 1985) at the Colonial Manor Nursing Home at Odebolt.
Funeral was at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Presbyterian Church. Rev. Marvin F. Miller officiated. Burial was in Resthaven Cemetery at LeMars under the direction of the Farber & Otteman Funeral Home. Graveside services at 2 p.m.
Mr. Smith was born Feb. 1, 1910, in LeMars. He married Marjorie Carothers Oct. 30, 1976.
He was a telephone manger for the Continental Telephone Company in Coon Rapids, Manilla, Albert City and LeMars.
Survivors are his wife, one son, Robert of Salt Lake City; five daughters, Mrs. Donald (Marilyn) Hillrichs of Fremont, Neb.; Carol Smith of Bremerton, Wash.; Mrs. Charles (Barbara) Agan of Manilla; Mrs. Jimmie (Lorraine) Riley of Tarkio, Mo.; and Mrs. John (Lois) Dorfler of Charter Oak; 14 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; one brother, Walter of Long Beach, Calif., and two sisters Ellen Tutt of Long Beach, Calif., and Hilda Laux of LeMars.

~Note: Additional information regarding Russell’s first wife, as quoted from her obituary: "Magdalene, daughter of Henry and Elizabeth Popma VanderSchoor, was born Dec. 3, 1910, at Orange City. She was graduated from Orange City High School in 1928 and entered nurses training at Methodist hospital, Sioux City for 1 ½ years. Her marriage to Russell Smith took place in 1930. After living in this area for several years, they moved in 1958 to Coon Rapids where Mr. Smith worked for the telephone company."
