ROBERT E. SMITH
Robert E. Smith, 56, lifelong Plymouth county resident, died unexpectedly Wednesday morning (March 15, 1978) at a farm near Merrill. He was pronounced dead on arrival at Floyd Valley Hospital, LeMars.
He was born Oct. 5, 1921, at Remsen to Robert M. and Anna (Redenius) Smith. He was a farmer.
Mr. Smith was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Johnson Township.
His marriage to Marjorie Boettger took place Oct. 5, 1945, in Sioux City.
Funeral services will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Johnson Township. Rev. Robert Salge will officiate and burial will be in Resthaven Cemetery near LeMars, under the direction of the Luken-Johnson Funeral Home in LeMars.
A prayer service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Survivors are his wife, Marjorie Ione Smith, Merrill; two sons, Larry Robert of Sioux City and Darwin Thomas, LeMars; three brothers, Harvey Smith, Woodstock, Minn.; Gilbert Smith, of Pipestone, Minn.; and David Smith of Peterson, Iowa; six sisters, Mrs. Earl (Georgia) Sorgdrager, Merrill; Mrs. Leonard (Bernice) Jacquez, San Mateo, Calif.; Mrs. Norbert (Ann) Peschon, Woodstock, Minn.; Mrs. Armand (Virginia) Brown, Akron; Mrs. Edward (Shirley) Marienau, Merrill; and Mrs. Donald (Amelia) Reamer, Las Vegas, Nev.; and six grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother.
