VARREL POPKEN
Varrel Virgil Popken, 43, a LeMars native, whose address was 809 Jackson, Apt. 5, Sioux City, was killed March 17, 1975, in an accident at Wilton, Ark. Details of the accident were not available.
He had been a time clerk on construction at Port Neal landing near Sioux City.
He was born July 16, 1931, in LeMars to William and Esther Osterbuhr Popken, who live here. His marriage to Betty Bean took place in 1969 at Texarkana, Ark.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Friday at St. John American Lutheran Church, LeMars. Burial will be in Resthaven Memory Gardens, LeMars, with Rev. Arnold Imbrock and Rev. William Reck officiating.
Survivors are his wife of Wilton and a son, Billy Popken, Wilton; daughters, Crystie Burkley, Sioux Falls and Desiree and Debra Popken both of LeMars; four step-children also of Wilton; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. William Popken, LeMars; four brothers, Romain of Hinton; Gary of James; Rodney in the Navy; and Billy of Minneapolis; three sisters, Jenean Lesher, Sioux City; Barbara Kunkel, Moville and LeAnn DeHaan, Orange City.
