ROBERT D. PLUEGER
LE MARS, Iowa --- Robert Darrell Plueger, 76, of LeMars, died Wednesday, June 20, 2001, at Floyd Valley Hospital in LeMars.
Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Presbyterian United Church of Christ in LeMars, with the Rev. Tim Olson officiating. Visitation will be after 5 p.m. Sunday, with a prayer service at 7 p.m. at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home in LeMars.
Mr. Plueger was born July 12, 1924, near Maurice, Iowa. He was raised on a farm and educated in the Maurice area. Following his education, he farmed with his family and for area farmers. He served in the U.S. Army from 1943 to 1947, stationed in the European Theater with an anti-aircraft artillery unit. Following his discharge, he returned to the Maurice area.
He married Marcella “Sally” Schwebach on Feb. 9, 1946, in Paullina, Iowa. The couple lived in California, where he was employed in a lumber mill. They later returned to LeMars, where he worked as a cement contractor. He volunteered his tie and materials for many local projects.
He was a member of Presbyterian United Church of Christ, American Legion Wasmer Post 241 and Fraternal Order of Eagles. He enjoyed making wood crafts.
Survivors include his wife; three daughters and their husbands, Diana and Daryl Smith of Nampa, Idaho, Donna and Ken Taylor of LeMars and Susan and Greg Luken of Slidell, La.; two sons and their wives, Gary and Susie of Woodlands, Texas, and Jim and Susan of LeMars; 10 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; five sisters, Carol Drake of Spencer, Iowa, Jackie and her husband, Eddie Carson, of St. Joseph, Mo., Aremeda and her husband, Jim Freel of Gary, Neb., and LaWanda and her husband, John Mendez of Gary, Neb.; and four brothers and their wives, Don and Mabel of Augusta, Ga., Gene and Delores and Ken and Connie and Stan and Pat, all of LeMars.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Lyle, and a great grandchild.
