SENEY, Iowa -- Calmer C. Olson, 74, of Seney passed away Sunday, Feb. 23, 2003, at Brentwood Good Samaritan Center in Le Mars, Iowa.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Seney United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Tom Shinkle officiating. Burial will be in Resthaven Memory Gardens, rural Le Mars. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Carlsen Funeral Home in Le Mars.
Calmer Charles Olson was born to Ole Ben and Alvina (Rothbart) Olson on Nov. 9, 1928, in Seney. He was baptized and confirmed at Seney United Methodist Church. He was a lifelong resident of Seney. He graduated from Le Mars Central High School. As a young man, he worked as an independent truck driver.
He was united in marriage to Theda Weicht on March 15, 1952, in Seney, where they made their home. He worked at the elevator in Seney before becoming a chemical engineer at Nutra-Flo Company in Sioux City, where he retired after 31 years. After his retirement, he worked as a part-time bus driver at Le Mars Community Schools and delivered newspapers for the Daily Sentinel. His health forced him to become a resident of Brentwood Good Samaritan Center in December 2002.
He was a member of Seney United Methodist Church, where he sang in the choir for several years. In his earlier years, he enjoyed fishing. He also enjoyed gardening, playing cards and spending time with his grandchildren. He regularly attended their ball games.
Survivors include his wife, Theda of Seney; four children and their spouses, Beverly and Rick Erickson of Las Vegas, Nev., Rhonda and Dan Beach of Le Mars, Kevin and Peggy Olson of Le Mars, and Lori and Tony Schuver of Alton, Iowa; 15 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a brother and his wife, Bill and Arlene Olson of Le Mars; a sister, Alma Olson of Le Mars; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Albert, Lawrence and Fred Olson; two sisters, Violet Heien and Margaret Olson; and a grandson, Brett Olson.
Pallbearers will be Dan Beach, Tony Schuver, Rick Erickson, Terry Olson, Eugene Olson and Mike Stinton. Honorary pallbearers will be his grandchildren and great-grandsons.
