DONALD R. MOIR

MERRILL, Iowa -- Donald R. Moir, 75, of Merrill died Thursday, Feb. 7, 2002, at a Sioux City hospital.

Services will be 10 a.m. Monday at St. Paul Lutheran Church, rural Merrill, with the Rev. Dr. Klaus Raab officiating. Burial will be in Resthaven Memory Gardens Cemetery in Le Mars. Visitation will begin at noon Sunday, with family present 2 to 5 p.m. and a prayer service at 3 p.m., at Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home in Le Mars. Visitation will continue one hour prior to Monday's services at the church.

Mr. Moir was born April 20, 1926, on the family farm near Struble, Iowa, the son of William and Nellie (Wynia) Moir. He attended rural school near his home. Following his education, he helped his family with farming. He served his country in the U.S. Army from Oct. 6,1950, until his honorable discharge on Oct. 2, 1952. He served overseas in Germany.

He married Mildred Borchers on Jan. 14, 1955, at St. Paul Lutheran Church. The couple made their home on a farm near Merrill. Along with farming, he worked at Marian Health Center (now Mercy Medical Center) in Sioux City. He was a member of American Legion Olson-Halweg Post 125 of Merrill. He enjoyed fishing, horses and farming with his boys.

Donald will be lovingly remembered by his wife; three sons, Dave and his wife, Carmen of Struble, Iowa, Lynn of Maurice, Iowa, and Larry of Merrill; a daughter, Donna Moir of Struble; three grandchildren, Aron Moir of Sioux Falls, S.D., Christopher Moir of Struble, and Sara Moir of Struble; a sister and her husband, Elsie and Frank Brown of Salix, Iowa; and four nieces and their families.

He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant sister, Dorothy Moir.
