Lois Arvella Zimmerman Rees, daughter of Walter and Anna Lippke Zimmerman,was born at Merrill, Iowa on November 23, 1910. She received her public school education at Merrill, Iowa and her high school education at Le Mars, Iowa. She received her teachers college at Cedar Falls, Iowa. After her education, she taught Sioux, Plymouth, Meadow, Johnson, America, Elgin and Brunsville Townships around Le Mars, Iowa for ten years.

She was baptized and received into membership of the Merrill Stanton Evangelical United Brethren Church of Merrill, Iowa. After moving to Mountain Lake, Minnesota, she became a member of the Gospel Mennonite Church.

On June 8, 1938, she was united in marriage to Harold Rees at Merrill.

After their marriage, they lived in the LeMars and Merrill area until 1962. They then moved to Mountain Lake, Minnesota.

Mr. and Mrs. Rees served as foster parents to children from orphanages for several years. They adopted two children in 1949. She had always kept in close contact with her entire family and especially with missionaries. She was very active in church work where she served as Sunday School teacher and at the time of her death, she was president of the Kings Co-Workers of the Gospel Mennonite Church. She loved gardening and always shared her garden products with other people.

Lois entered the Mountain Lake Community Hospital on Thursday, April 15, 1982, and passed away on Friday evening after surgery the following day. She attained the age of 71 years, 4 months and 23 days.

She is survived by her husband, Harold; one daughter and one son-in- law Ardythe and Orv Stoesz of Golden, Colorado; three grandsons, Kevin, Curtis, and Clarke Stoesz; two brothers, Kenneth Zimmerman of Wichita Falls, Texas and Noble Zimmerman of Audubon, Iowa; three sisters, Evelyn and Carol Zimmerman, both of Le Mars, Iowa, and Mrs. Loren Smith of Waterville, Minnesota; sister-in law Mrs. Roy Zimmerman of Archer, Iowa; aunts and uncles, Carl Lippke of Le Mars, Iowa, Mr. and Mrs. Erick Lippke of Wisconsin, and Mrs. Art Zimmerman of Le Mars; also numerous nieces and nephews, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, and a great niece.
