Viola Muecke, 84, longtime Hinton area resident, died Wednesday (May 13, 1987) at the Akron Care Center after a long illness. She had lived the last 3 ½ years at the care center.

Funeral will be at 1 p.m. Friday at the Hinton United Methodist Church with Rev. Dale Stone officiating. Burial will be in Resthaven Memory Gardens under the direction of the Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home. A prayer service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

She was born Nov. 26, 1902, in Cherokee County to Claus C.H. and Viola Sturges Peters. She came to Plymouth County in 1921. On Oct. 1, 1924, she married Oswald Muecke in LeMars. They lived and farmed in the Hinton area, retiring to Hinton in 1954. Mr. Muecke died in 1979.

Mrs. Muecke was a member of the Hinton United Methodist Church, the U.M.W., senior citizens of Hinton, and the American Legion Auxiliary.

Survivors are a son, Elmer Muecker, of Sheldon; a daughter, Mrs. George (Irene) Ludwigs of LeMars; six grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. John (Laura) Diercksen of LeMars; a brother, Ralph Peters of Guttenberg. She was also preceded in death by her parents; two sisters and four brothers.
