OSCAR E. MENTZER

Oscar E. Mentzer, 87, of LeMars, died today (Wednesday, April 19, 1989) at Plymouth Manor Care Center in LeMars after a two month illness.

Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home in LeMars with Rev. Kenneth Royar officiating. Burial will be in Resthaven Memory Gardens, LeMars. Visitation at the funeral home is after 2 p.m. Thursday with the family present from 7 to 8:30 p.m.

Mr. Mentzer was born July 28, 1901, at Carlisle, Pa., to David and Clara (Erford) Mentzer. He came to Iowa as a young man and married Alta McCorkell Dec. 8, 1926, at Akron. He lived in Plymouth County and South Dakota all his adult life. He was a retired farmer. He was a member of Masonic Lodge and Farm Service Board of Directors.

Survivors are his wife, Alta, of LeMars; three sons, Jim Mentzer of LeMars, Clifford Whitaker of Plano, Tex., and Robert Whitaker, of Boulder, Colo.; a daughter, Madeline Trpkosh of Mount Vernon, Iowa; two brothers, Fred and Robert Mentzer of Colorado Springs, Colo; four sisters, Goldie Jumper of Newville, Pa., Ida Nicholson of Craig, Amy Becker of Ireton and Shirley (Moore) Swenson of Big Lake, Minn.; 10 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers.
