ALTA MARIE MENTZER

Alta Marie Mentzer, 87, of LeMars, died Thursday, Nov. 19, 1992, at Plymouth Manor Care Center in LeMars.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home in LeMars with Rev. Wayne Gjerde officiating. Burial will be at Resthaven Memory Gardens. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today (Friday) with the family present from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mrs. Mentzer was born Jan. 4, 1905, at Akron, the daughter of Howard and Estelle (Tucker) McCorkell. She graduated from Akron High School in 1923 and worked at Akron prior to her marriage. She married Oscar E. Mentzer Dec. 8, 1926, at Akron. The couple farmed in the Akron area prior to moving to a farm south of Struble in 1942. He died April 19, 1989.

Survivors include three sons and their wives, Jim and Lois Mentzer of LeMars, Bob and Ellen Whitaker of Boulder, Colo., and Clifford and Betty Whitaker of Plano, Texas; a daughter, Madeline Trpkosh of Mount Vernon, Iowa; 10 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a great great grandchild; four sisters, Lois Nielsen and Carol Siebens, both of Akron, Jean Esterburg of Alexandria, Minn., and Dorothy Whitaker of Illinois; and a brother, Wesley McCorkell of Salem, S. D.

She was preceded in death by three sisters, Esther Clarey, Evelyn Olson and Sybil Whitaker.
