MARY ELIZABETH GUNTHER
Mary Elizabeth Gunther, 100, of LeMars, died Saturday (Nov. 18, 1989) at the Brentwood Good Samaritan Center in LeMars.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the First United Methodist Church at LeMars with Rev. Robert Robinson officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Cemetery in LeMars. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. Tuesday, with the family present from 7 to 8 p.m. at the Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home in LeMars.
Mrs. Gunther, the former Mary Elizabeth Adney, was born March 3, 1889, at Marcus, the daughter of Thomas and Mary Edith (Huyck) Adney. She married Henry Gunther Sept. 8, 1911, in LeMars. She was a homemaker and taught country school prior to her marriage. She and her husband operated the LeMars Rendering Works for many years. Mr. Gunther died in 1958.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, a life member of the Order of the Eastern Star, and member of the Senior Citizens, in which she was honored as centurion by Area IV.
Survivors are 16 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren and four great great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; her step-mother, Anna Langendorferp; two brothers, Charles and William; one half-brother, Howard; two half-sisters, Verna and Ethel; and three sons, Clair, Clemons and Herbert.
A memorial has been established in her name at the First United Methodist church in Le Mars.
