STEVEN L. KOWALKE

Steven L. Kowalke, 30, of LeMars, lifetime Plymouth county resident died Friday (Nov. 14, 1986) at St. Luke's Regional Medical Center of injuries suffered Thursday in a one-car accident on Highway 75 north of Sioux City in Plymouth County. This is the fourth traffic fatality in 1986 in the county.

Funeral was at 11 a.m. Monday at St. John’s American Lutheran Church in LeMars with Rev. Tom Lee officiating. Burial was in Resthaven Cemetery. Visitation was after 2 p.m. Sunday, with the family present from 7 to 8 p.m., at Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home in LeMars.

Mr. Kowalke was born April 5, 1956, in LeMars. He graduated from LeMars Community High School in 1974. He had served with the Iowa National Guard. He had worked for American Popcorn Co. in Sioux C for eight years.

He was a member of St. John's American Lutheran Church in LeMars and Oleson-Halweg Post American Legion in Merrill.

Survivors are his parents, Beverly and Herman Kowalke Jr; one sister, Mrs. Steve (Kathy) Sitzmann; a step-daughter, Amy Hassman; maternal grandmother, Phyllis Smith, all of LeMars; three nephews and a niece; and fiancé Cheryl Silvest of LeMars.

Preceding him in death were his maternal grandfather and paternal grandparents, Herman and Bernice Kowalke.
