Otto E. Kalas, 90, of LeMars, died Monday (July 12, 1982) at Brentwood Care Center in LeMars.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday in the First Baptist Church in LeMars. Rev. Robert Hanthorn will officiate. Burial will be in Resthaven Memory Gardens under the direction of the Mauer funeral home of LeMars.

Mr. Kalas was born Nov. 6, 1891, near Merrill and was a lifelong area resident. He farmed in rural Merrill in Liberty township until 1979 when he retired to LeMars.

He married Julia Sahl in March 1916 in Harlan. She died in December 1967. He married Alice Berger in October 1969 in Shelby county.

Mr. Kalas was a member of the First Baptist Church, was a longtime director of the Plymouth REC and was active in the Plymouth county soil conservation.

Survivors are his wife Alice; two sons, Richard and Merlin, both of rural Merrill, and three granddaughters.

He was preceded in death by his first wife; three brothers and five sisters.
