MRS. B. GARTON

Mrs. Bertha Garton of 805 – 7th St., Sioux City, who made her home with a daughter, Mrs. M. E. Knepper, passed away at the Cummins Nursing Home there on August 23, 1956. She had been ailing for several years.

Bertha Kleurnhamer was born on August 17, 1874, at Hamburg, Germany and came to the USA and Chicago at the age of 15 years. Three years later, she moved to Plymouth county. For the past six years she has lived in Sioux City.

Deceased was married to Caleb Barton, Sr., in Chicago. He preceded her in death.

Funeral services were held Monday, August 27, at 2:00 p.m. at the Mauer funeral home, Rev. Carl H. Whittier of Sioux City officiated and burial was in the City Cemetery at LeMars under the direction of the Mauer funeral home.

Survivors include four daughters, Mrs. Isabelle Robbins of Waukegan, Ill., Mrs. Joseph D. Sampson of Kansas City, and Mrs. F. E. Furfaro of Chicago; a son, Jack, of Avondale Estates, Georgia; nine grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Also surviving is a sister, Mrs. Jennie Petersen of Glendale, Calif.

Mrs. Garton was a member of the Baptist Church and was active in the Sunshine Club.
