Thelma H. Ladenberger, 94 of San Diego, Calif., and formerly of Le Mars, died Saturday, March 25, 2006, at the Point Loma Convalescent Home in San Diego.
Thelma Hanno Ladenberger was born on Dec. 14, 1911, in the Le Mars area, the daughter of John Henry and Marie (Dornbush) Hanno. She attended local schools and later received a degree in teaching from Western Union College (Westmar College) in Le Mars. She later taught elementary school near McCallsburg, Iowa.
On March 14, 1939, Thelma and Donald A. Ladenberger were united in marriage in New Orleans, La. While Donald worked with the Federal Bureau of Investigation the family lived in various locations throughout the United States. They settled in California in 1946. In 1960, Thelma returned to teaching in the Los Angeles area. She taught kindergarten, elementary level and special education classes. Donald died June 13, 1996.
Thelma loved teaching and the children she guided. She also enjoyed traveling, animals, and collected antique perfume bottles.
She will be lovingly remembered by her son Donald J. Ladenberger of La Jolla, Calif., and local area extended family members.
Graveside services will take place at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 8, at Memorial Cemetery in Le Mars. The Rev. Drew Tomberlin of the Presbyterian United Church of Christ in Le Mars will officiate. The Mauer - Johnson Funeral Home of LeMars is assisting the family with arrangements.
