ELDRED M. BALES

KINGSLEY, Iowa --- Eldred M. “Red” Bales, 78, of Kingsley died Wednesday, August 4, 1999, at a Sioux City hospital.

Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Earnest-Michaelson Funeral Home of Kingsley, with the Rev. Elwood Rieke officiating. The family will have a private graveside service. There will be no visitation.

Mr. Bales was born Jan. 12, 1921, at Stet. Mo, the son of R.G. and Florence E. (Miller) Bales. He graduated from the University of Missouri with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Agriculture.

He married Olivene Hawkins on June 28, 1942. The couple moved to the Kingsley area in 1956. He worked for many years as a carpenter.

He served in the U.S. Navy in the Philippine Islands during World War II.

Survivors include his wife: five sons, Donald and his wife, Timi, of Pomeroy, Iowa; Larry, and his wife, Jill, of Griswold, Iowa; Keith and his wife, Pam, of Sioux City; Dale and his wife, Maria, of Indianola, Iowa; and Greg of Saginaw, Mich.; his mother, Florence, of Braymer, Mo.; a sister and her husband, Wanetta “Bonnie” and Edwin Reeves, of Ste, Mo.; a brother and his wife, Ray Francis and Willouse “Willie” of Norborne, Mo.; 10 grandchildren; Terry, Dustin, Jennifer, Eric, Kyle, Jason, Kimberley, Alexander, and Zachary Bales, and Kari Angstadt; and one great grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his father.
