JOSEPHINE ALESCH

MARCUS, Iowa --- Josephine Alesch, 91, of Marcus died Thursday, May 2, 1996, at the Abbey in LeMars, Iowa.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Holy Name Catholic Church in Marcus with the Rev. James Fangman and Monsignor A. J. Behrens officiating. Burial will be in Holy Name Cemetery. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today, with a 7:30 p.m. Scripture service, at the Earnest & Roethler Funeral Home in Marcus.

Mrs. Alesch, the former Josephine Susan Braun, was born June 16, 1904, in Exira, Iowa, the daughter of Frank and Catherine (Nepper) Braun. She moved to LeMars in 1908, where she attended St. Joseph School.

She married Joseph L. Alesch on January 14, 1931, in LeMars. The couple farmed west of Marcus for many years before retiring in 1963 and moving to Marcus. Mr. Alesch died October 5, 1972. Mrs. Alesch resided at the Abbey for the past 12 years.

Mrs. Alesch was a member of the Holy Name Catholic Church, St. Annes Guild, and a lay minister and member of the Altar Society of the church. She also belonged to Catholic Daughters of America and the Marcus Garden club.

Survivors include a son and his wife, Don and Carol of Marcus; a daughter, Marilyn Betz of Sioux City; a brother, Karl Braun, of LeMars; two sisters, Mrs. Fred (Leona) Wicklow of New York City, and Mrs. Greg (Mary) Kass of Sibley, Iowa; 16 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Colette Briggs; four brothers, John, Franz, Arthur and Paul; and four sisters, Colette in infancy, Mrs. Ben (Philomine) Mairose, and twin sisters, Mrs. Bill (Gertrude) Groetken and Mrs. Leonard (Rita) Hoffman.
