KINGSLEY, Iowa -- Robert John Cole, 45, of Brownsville, Texas, formerly of Kingsley, died unexpectedly Sunday, Sept. 30, 2001, at his residence.

Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at San Felipe de Jesus Catholic Church in Brownsville. Arrangements are under the direction of Garza Memorial Funeral Home in Brownsville. Graveside memorial services will be 11 a.m. Saturday in St. Michael's Catholic Cemetery, Kingsley. The family will be present at a luncheon at St. Michael's Church Hall in Kingsley immediately following the service Saturday.

Mr. Cole was a native of Kingsley, graduating from Kingsley-Pierson High School. He then graduated from Briar Cliff University in 1979. He was a science teacher at Marcus (Iowa) High School from 1981 to 1984, at American School in Honduras from 1985 to 1986, and at Central Middle School in Brownsville since 1987.

His interests included traveling, natural habitat, native cultures and historic restoration. He was a volunteer at the Gladys Porter Zoo and founding member of the Boca Chica Beach Preservation Society and a coordinator of the Gulf Coast Beach Clean Up Project.

He is survived by three brothers and three sisters, Lois and her husband, Don Carlson of Council Bluffs, Iowa, Jim of Fresno, Calif., Linda and her husband Mark Johanson of Pembroke, N.H., Joe and his wife, Lori of Chicago, Janet of Houston, Texas, and Ray and his wife, Susan of Des Moines.
