LE MARS, Iowa -- Elaine E. Cronin, 69, of Escondido, Calif., formerly of Le Mars, died Thursday, Jan. 31, 2002, at Floyd Valley Hospital in Le Mars following a year-long battle with cancer.

Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at St. James Catholic Church in Le Mars, with the Rev. Richard Ries officiating. Burial will be in St. Catherine's Catholic Cemetery, Oyens, Iowa. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today, with a Our Lady, Queen of Peace prayer group rosary at 3 p.m., a parish rosary at 4 p.m. and a Scriptural wake service at 7 p.m., all at Feuerstein Funeral Home in Le Mars.

Elaine Elizabeth Ahlrich was born Oct. 3, 1932, the daughter of Alfred and Kathryn (Trafford) Ahlrich.

Elaine enjoyed her pilgrimages to the Vatican City and St. Peter's Basilica, and was greeted by Pope John Paul II. A trip to the Holy Land, Jerusalem, the Old City and Bethlehem and visits to Fatima in Portugal, Lourdes in France and Medjugorje in Yugoslavia were some the great places she was able to be in, in recent years.

Elaine was a member of St. Mark's Catholic Church in San Marcos, Calif.; and St. James Catholic Church in Le Mars.

Survivors include her husband, Lolan Cronin of Escondido; two daughters, Renee and her husband, Randy Persinger, of Le Mars and Dawn Sitzmann of Sergeant Bluff; three stepdaughters, Mary Jane Dittberner and her husband, John, of Mendote Heights, Minn., Peggy Peddersen of Salt Lake City, Utah, and Kay Petersen and her husband, Jeff, of Merrill, Iowa; four grandsons, Jeremy, Matthew, Austin and Andrew; six granddaughters, Jenifer, Tiffany, Stacie, Amber, Arley and Marrisa; five great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Ron and Jerry Ahlrich, both of Las Vegas, Nev.

In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by a son, Rodney, killed in Vietnam; a daughter, Kelly Hageman on Jan. 30, 2001; a stepson, Raymond Peddersen; and a brother, Jerry Ahlrich.

Pallbearers will be her grandchildren.
