Maxine B. Cropley, 87, of Sioux City died Sunday, Dec. 9, 2001, at Kingsley Nursing and Rehab Center in Kingsley, Iowa, following a lengthy illness.

Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Nelson-Berger Morningside Chapel in Sioux City, with the Rev. Krishen Persaud officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation with the family present will be 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mrs. Cropley was born May 11, 1914, in Pierson, Iowa, the daughter of Julian Herbert and Minnie (Watson) Benson. She was raised in Pierson and graduated from Pierson High School. She attended business school and was a professional secretary until her marriage.

Maxine married Walter P. Cropley on Dec. 16, 1952. They made their home in Sioux City. Mr. Cropley passed away Aug. 20, 1975.

She was a member of St. Luke's Lutheran Church, Dorcas Circle and Iota Delphian Study Club. She enjoyed crafting. She was a loving wife, mother and homemaker.

Survivors include a son and his wife, W. Pierce "Pete" and Nina Cropley of Moville, Iowa; two daughters and their husbands, Prudence and John Theil of Wayne, Neb., and Penelope and Keith Murrills of Fairbanks, Alaska; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She also was preceded in death by a brother, Ronald Benson; and a sister, Thera Stribley.
