LE MARS, Iowa -- Edna R. Danner, 89, of Le Mars died Sunday, March 17, 2002, at Plymouth Manor Care Center in Le Mars.

Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Calvary United Methodist Church in Le Mars, with the Rev. Tom Shinkle officiating. Burial will be at a later date in Valley View Cemetery, Ordway, Colo. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today, with the family present 5 to 7 p.m., at Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home in Le Mars. Visitation will resume one hour prior to the service Wednesday at the church.

Edna R. Danner was born Aug. 17, 1912, in Ordway, the daughter of George and Katherine (Gulde) Bartsch. She was raised in Ordway, where she graduated from high school. She moved to Le Mars and received her bachelor's degree from Westmar College in 1952.

On Aug. 23, 1942, she married Edwin C. Danner in Ordway. The couple made their home in Le Mars. Edna taught business and elementary school at Merrill, Iowa, for many years. She also taught part time at Westmar College in 1960, and later was in charge of the Curriculum Center in the library. She retired in 1980 and began doing volunteer work. She was named the Outstanding University Volunteer in 1996. Edwin died July 2, 1993.

She was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church.

Survivors include a brother and his wife, Ralph and Martha Bartsch of Lakewood, Colo.; a sister, Mabel Klingensmith of Lakewood; a niece and her husband, Arlene and John Rodeen of Sioux City; and several other nieces and nephews.

She also was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Esther Peters; and two brothers, Clarence and Harold.
