REMSEN, Iowa -- Dr. Duane M. Drum, D.V.M., 72, of Remsen died Friday, Nov. 30, 2001.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Remsen, with the Rev. Craig D. Miller officiating. Burial will be in Remsen City Cemetery. Visitation will be after 3 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the church. Feuerstein Funeral Home in Le Mars is in charge of arrangements.
Dr. Drum was born May 25, 1929, in Lytton, Iowa, the son of Vernon and Ida (Harms) Drum. He spent his childhood in that area and graduated from Lytton High School. He farmed with his dad and sold dairy equipment before entering Iowa State University for veterinary medicine. He graduated in 1959, and practiced in Wellsburg, Iowa. He married Neola Grodahl in 1953, in Rembrandt, Iowa. She died in April 1966. He moved to Remsen in 1967, and joined Remsen Veterinary Clinic. In March 1971 he married Judi (Schumacher) Rogers at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Remsen. He retired from the Remsen clinic in 1991.
He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, was a former president of the church council, and a member of the Remsen Lions Club. He also was a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, the Iowa Veterinary Medical Association, and the Northwest Iowa Veterinary Medical Association.
Doc enjoyed raising and showing quarter horses for many years, and was a member of the Northwest Iowa Quarter Horse Association and past president of the O-R Saddle Club. Always busy, Doc enjoyed a lively game of cards, a spin around the dance floor and a good laugh.
Survivors include his wife; five children, Debra Drum of Sparks, Nev., Pamela Drum du Pre' and her husband, Paul of Reno, Nev., Douglas Drum of Ukiah, Calif., Shawn (Rogers) Blomker and her husband, Scott of Crete, Neb., and Lisa (Rogers) Lamb and her husband, Dr. Fred Lamb of Iowa City, Iowa; eight grandchildren; a brother and his wife, Dale and Marilyn Drum of Remsen; and many nieces and nephews.
He also was preceded in death by his parents.
