Violet Matilda Clabaugh, 89, of Sioux City, formerly of Westfield, Iowa, died Monday, June 16, 2003, at a Sioux City nursing home following a brief illness.

Services will be 2 p.m. Friday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, with the Rev. Laurice Streyffeler officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home.

Mrs. Clabaugh was born April 4, 1914, in Luton, Iowa, the daughter of John E. and Alice (Norton) Lesline.

She married Donald W. Clabaugh on Nov. 4, 1933, in Onawa, Iowa. The couple moved to a farmed near Westfield from Salix, Iowa, in 1938. She continued to live there until November 2002. Mr. Clabaugh died Sept. 25, 1998, in Sioux City.

She assisted with the family farm and cared for her family. She was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church in Akron, Iowa. She enjoyed life, fishing, embroidery and playing cards. She loved flowers and had a greenthumb with her flowers.

Survivors include two daughters and their husbands, Gladys L. and Merritt Carlson of Fort Collins, Colo., and Margaret A. and Carl Nelson of Westfield; a sister, Alice Pranschke of Jefferson, S.D.; seven grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Donald; a daughter, Janet Lyne; a grandson, Randi Nelson; and three brothers, Asa, John and Elvin.

Pallbearers will be Ricci Nelson, John Howard, John Lesline, Jim Lesline, Jeffery Kennedy, Roger Marshall and Rodney Nelson.
