Keith B. De Boer, 4, son of Mr. and Mrs. Marvin De Boer, rural Brunsville, was killed when he was struck by a car on a gravel road near his home at 10:05 a.m. Saturday, June 1. The accident happened at 14 miles west of LeMars.

Highway Patrolman William Wruck reported the child was dead on arrival at Floyd Valley Hospital, where he was taken by his parents following the accident. He suffered scalp and chest injuries.

Keith and his 12-year-old sister, Cynthia, were waiting at the farm drive to cross the road to the mailbox, Patrolman Wruck reported. They started across the road after waiting for a pickup truck to pass, not noticing the oncoming car driven by Ervin Janssen Harms, 35, rural LeMars.

Cynthia was not hit, but Keith was struck and knocked about 75 feet down the road. He was killed instantly, officers said. Mr. Harms was driving a 1967 Ford.

Funeral services will be Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. at First Reformed Church, Ireton. Burial will be in Rest Haven Memory Gardens near LeMars under direction of the Mauer funeral home. Rev. Gradus Aalberts will officiate.

Survivors are his parents, though sister, Cynthia, and a brother, Mark, at home; paternal grandfather, Roy De Boer, LeMars; maternal grandmother, Mrs. Josephine Meis, Chicago. He was preceded in death by his grandfather, John Meis, and his grandmother, Mrs. Ruth De Boer.

Keith was born June 28, 1963, at Sioux City. His mother was the former Marian Meis. He was a member of the Sunday school at the Ireton church.
