Delbert "Del" Farrington, 84, of Merrill died Saturday July 31, 2004, at the Plymouth Manor Care Center in Le Mars, following a brief illness.

Delbert Farrington was born Dec. 7, 1919, at Greensboro, N.C., the son of George and Lillie (Hill) Farrington. He served his country with the U.S. Army in Germany, during World War II and also served during the Korean War. Del married Eva Rees on June 15, 1943. She died March 4, 1961. He married Dula Langel on Aug. 4, 1962, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Le Mars. The couple lived most of their married lives in Merrill. Del was a longtime truck driver and retired as a driver for Pamida, Inc., in December 1982.

He was a member of Our Lady of Assumption Catholic Church and the American Legion, Olson-Halweg Post #125 in Merrill.

In his retirement, Del enjoyed coffee with his friends and spending time with his family and grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife, Dula of Merrill; a daughter, Beth Campbell and her husband, Mark of Le Mars; four grandchildren: Carrie, Ryan, Chris, and Alex Campbell; a brother, Jim Farrington and his wife, Marion of Cameron, N.C.; a sister-in-law, Marie Farrington, also of Cameron, N.C.; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers: George, Roy, and Troy Farrington; and three sisters: Mary Farrington, Louise Parks, and Elizabeth Williams.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Our Lady of Assumption Catholic Church in Merrill with the Rev. Nickolas L. Becker presiding. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Le Mars. Military honors will be conducted at the graveside by Olson-Halweg Post #125 of the American Legion.

Friends may call anytime after 2 p.m. today (Monday) at the Feuerstein Funeral Home in Le Mars, with a vigil service at 6:45 p.m. Monday evening.

Pallbearers will be Ryan Campbell, Chris Campbell, Tim Ruhland, Corey Ruhland, Steve Hemmelman, and Hank Campbell. Honorary pallbearers will be Carrie and Alex Campbell.
